Award-winning Bak Kut Teh: 亚华肉骨茶 Teochew Style Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh

Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh (亚华肉骨茶) is an award-winning eatery that serves Teochew style Bak Kut Teh. It's the top winner in 2012 Singapore Hawker Masters Bak Kut Teh category.

Bak Kut Teh is actually Chinese soup that is slowly simmered with Chinese herbs and spices like star anise, cloves, pepper, garlic, cinnamon, dang gui and meaty pork ribs for hours. It is also known to improve immune system. In the 19th century, Chinese immigrants coolies used to eat as a tonic to boost their health.

Last week, my cousin and cousin-in-law took me to this award-winning Teochew style Bak Kut Teh since I'm Teochew. I think my cousin-in-law is really a great host. The food he recommended are delicious.

Great food don't have to be expensive. As long as it is cooked with love and respect for their food, it is great food.

For this famous eatery, there are two branches. We went to the Havelock Road branch. The other Outram Road branch, I heard is managed by another sibling.

When you are here, do try their mee sua too. I think it is really exceptional.

How to get to Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh Havelock Branch
Just alight at Outram park MRT and take bus 75 (opposite Outram park MRT station) and alight at block 94. Then walk to the eatery.

You can eat this on its own or just dip the fried youtiao into the flavorful bak kut teh soup. Taste heavenly especially when it is sip into soup.
Mandopop King ,Jay Chou Jie Lun (周杰伦) (Top right) was here. The staff were so lucky to see him.
Very good mian sian or mee sua with fried garlic that add to the flavor. It is not overcooked as other shop.
Really love this meaty pork in Teochew style braised soup
This is the famous Bak Kut Teh with meaty pork ribs. Havelock branch is not as spicy as Outram branch. For Teochew style, there are more garlic and pepper and is lighter in colour compared to the Hokkien.
