Reunion Dinner on Chinese New Year Eve 2017

How time flies. Today is finally Chinese New Year eve, the day we have reunion dinner together as a family. Prior to the dinner, I spent the day spring cleaning my bedroom, cleaning the windows, some bookshelves and changing the curtain and finally sweeping the floor because we don't sweep the floor on the first day of Chinese New Year.

Reunion dinner is very important to us as we don't normally have dinner together as a family as we reach home at different time. Sometimes my brothers work late. So on Chinese New Year eve, everyone of us will have a lavish sumptuous dinner together.

While I was cleaning my room, my elder brother who is a great cook helped my mother to prepare reunion dinner. Well, my elder brother used to work at a restaurant as a cook. Together they prepared 12 delicious dishes which include abalone and vegetables, tasty soup filled with quail eggs, pork and fish balls, pig skin, sea cucumber, vegetables, fried egg, fried chicken wings, fried prawns, steamed prawns, steamed fish, braised pork, fried squid balls and ngio hiang or five spiced pork roll, a typical Teochew dish. Wow, I felt really full after the dinner. I also treasure the time we eat together as a family with my parents and my 3 brothers at home.

After dinner, we'll watch China CCTV Chinese New year show and maybe later watch channel 8 new year countdown. Later in the night, I watch Stephen Chow comedy movies. Today my brothers and I will stay up late maybe till 3am to 5am to 守岁 shou sui with the hope our parents can enjoy longevity. My youngest brother will be going overseas today.

I had a great dinner tonight, I hope you too.

To all the Chinese and fellow Teochew nang around the world, I wish you a Prosperous and Happy Rooster New Year 2017. 恭喜发财 Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Wow we had 12 sumptuous dishes for reunion dinner this year! What a spread!

My Lunch for Today at Imperial Treasure Restaurant Yi Dian Xin

I really love the cute dim sum, the porcupine bun so today I went back to Imperial Treasure restaurant at Raffles City shopping mall for my lunch today. I had prawn dumpling noodle dry, and some of my favourite dim sum like baked bbq pork pastry. I spent about $25 today as the restaurant also include 10% service charge and 7% GST. If you love dim sum, I highly recommend Imperial Treasure restaurant Yi Dian Xin.
At $9.30 its quite expensive but then this is a restaurant in downtown so no choice.
Shrimp wanton noodle dry at $9.30.
Deep fried porpupine with red bean paste $4.20
Baked BBQ pork pastry. Really delicious. $3.40.

Chili Crab Dumpling is Back at Ding Tai Fung!

Finally my favourite steamed chilli crab dumpling is back at Ding Tai Fung! This seasonal dish is only available from 1 July to end of August. Yesterday after reading at Raffles city shopping mall basement bookshop, I went to Ding Tai Fung restaurant for late lunch. Well at around 2.30pm, normally there is not much queue. Anyway this is my third meal at Ding Tai Fung this year.

I was happy to order the delicious egg and prawns fried rice which was awesome yesterday at Raffles city shopping mall! Fried rice really tests a chef cooking skills. At other branches, the egg and prawns fried rice were horrible. So I really savor every bite of the delicious egg and prawn fried rice and the plate was really clean.
I like this seaweed vegetable. A really delightful and refreshing healthy dish.
Thumbs up for this tasty egg and prawns fried rice! Sometimes others branch Ding Tai Fung fried rice is quite bland. But yesterday fried rice at Raffles City shopping mall basement branch was super tasty! Wow the prawns tasted refreshing sweet.
Steamed chilli crab dumpling is only available till 31 August this year! It is one dish I looks forwards to every year!
It is filled with soupy chilli crab and fresh pork.

Yummy Desserts at Honeymoon Dessert at Ion Orchard

One of the main reasons why I go to Ion Orchard shopping mall is to satisfy my craving for double-boiled milk with walnut and almond dessert, follow by a trip to the bookshop at Ngee Ann City. The silky smooth dessert with crunchy almond and walnut just makes me happy. Hmm, maybe next week I go to Ion Orchard to have my favourite dessert!

Chai Tow Kway aka Fried Carrot Cake

One of my favourite breakfast dish is Chai Tow Kway also known as fried carrot cake. It is a popular Teochew cuisine. It comes in two version; black which is doused with black soya sauce and is sweeter compared to the white version. I prefer white chai tow kway. My favourite stall is the one at Tampines round market at Blk 139.

Yummy Noodles at Tampines Coffee Shop

At Tampines coffee shop at Blk 826, there are several noodle stalls that sell really delicious noodle. One noodle stall that I like is Merchant Road Minced Pork Noodle that sells fish ball noodles and their signature minced pork noodle. The springy minced pork noodles is doused with delicious and tasty sauce. I don't really like minced pork so I always ask them to replace with pork ball. I know some people find it weird. But I just prefer pork ball to minced pork. Another noodle stall I like is Face Ban Mian that sells really delicious ban mian dry with their awesome spicy sauce. But it is expensive at $4.50 for a small bowl of noodle.
