Singapore Chinatown Chinese New Year Official Light-up 2014
I rarely go to Chinatown for the official Chinese New Year Light-up ceremony as the street is normally very crowded with both residents and tourists from around the world. But then, I feel this year is very special and I really like this year design theme, " Galloping to Prosperity" where herd of 176 horses look like they are galloping with great gusto to a better future and starry of ancient Chinese gold coins floating above the horses.
Indeed, I was awaiting with great anticipation. My cousin and I stood at a great spot where we saw firecrackers booming loudly right in front of our very eyes and a rhapsody of colorful fireworks popping up in the sky. Wow, we were mesmerized by the beautiful eruption of beauty. I told her the firecrackers were metaphorically popping away all unhappy events that happened last year, and this year will be a better new year!
In three more weeks to 31 January, we'll be ushering Chinese New Year, which is the year of Horse based on the Chinese zodiac. Yes, Chinese New Year is my favorite festival of the year. I'll be having sumptuous reunion dinner with my family when we have the best food of the year like abalone, fried prawns, Teochew braised duck, chicken, fish, a pot of delicious soup to be filled with quail eggs, fishballs, prawns, porkball, vegetables, and so much more. Yes, its only three more weeks and I really need to spring clean my room to usher in the brand new year.
The Chinese New Year Light-up will be from 11 Jan to 28 Feb this year along New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street and South Bridge Road. Street stalls at Chinatown streets like Sago, Smith, Trenggaanu, Temple and Pagoda streets start now and will end on 30 Jan this year.
To get to Chinatown, just alight at Chinatown MRT station. Remember to bring your camera to capture the beautiful sights.

The banner read,"Wishing everyone from around the world, a Happy New Year". The lightup ceremony ushers Chinese New Year which starts on 31 January this year!
New Bridge road was closed yesterday for the Chinatown official lightup event
There is always long queue at Lim Chee Guan bak kwa or bbq pork/chicken (dried meat in flat sheet form), few weeks before Chinese New Year. They are considered the best for its softer bak kwa compared to their competitors.
