Singapore Teochew Festival
As a Teochew, I went to Ngee Ann City for the Singapore Teochew Festival to learn about my dialect, culture and to support the event. Both my parents are Teochew. My paternal grandfather came from Jieyang Chouzhou and maternal grandfather from Chaoyang Chaozhou. Thus, I grew up in a traditional Teochew family and went through the chu huay hmm ceremony (out of the flower garden) which symbolize the transition to adulthood at about 14 to 15 years old.
As a art lover, I was delighted to see various art forms be it intricate woodcarving works, embroidery and beautiful tea pots and enjoy free sweet peanuts.
The only disappointment was the pricey food at Teochew Food Street. A plate of Teochew Fried Kway Teow with diced vegetable costs a hefty price of $10.00 and a plate of braised duck rice costs $10.00. A plate of orh luak or oyster omelette costs $15.00. Of all the food stalls, I think the Li Xin fishball kway teow soup price is reasonable at $6.00.

You can buy their famous tau sar piah but it is slightly expensive than the shop
