Celebrating National Day at Home

As usual, my family and I celebrate National Day at home. Today I ordered KFC umani chicken, cheese fries and coleslaw at home so that we can eat and watch National Day Parade show at home. My brother fried noodles and bee hoon for dinner.

I've been applying for NDP tickets for the past 10 years but rarely get the NDP tickets. In the past, we would just queue up at Tampines stadium early for the NDP tickets. Now with balloting, I rarely get the NDP tickets. I'm beginning to think I have less affinity with Singapore. Anyway next year, I might be going overseas for postgraduate education and won't be in Singapore to celebrate NDP at this period of time.

Happy birthday Singapore!

 KFC unami chickens.
Soggy and soft fries. Not good.

Spiky Durians Are Delicious!

Thanks to my friend. She treated me to a box of delicious durian last week. The seeds are very small and there are lots of creamy sweet durian. Thus I don't understand why caucasians find durian pungent. It is so deliciously sweet and creamy. If you are in Singapore, you must try durian!

Chili Crab Dumpling is Back at Ding Tai Fung!

Finally my favourite steamed chilli crab dumpling is back at Ding Tai Fung! This seasonal dish is only available from 1 July to end of August. Yesterday after reading at Raffles city shopping mall basement bookshop, I went to Ding Tai Fung restaurant for late lunch. Well at around 2.30pm, normally there is not much queue. Anyway this is my third meal at Ding Tai Fung this year.

I was happy to order the delicious egg and prawns fried rice which was awesome yesterday at Raffles city shopping mall! Fried rice really tests a chef cooking skills. At other branches, the egg and prawns fried rice were horrible. So I really savor every bite of the delicious egg and prawn fried rice and the plate was really clean.
I like this seaweed vegetable. A really delightful and refreshing healthy dish.
Thumbs up for this tasty egg and prawns fried rice! Sometimes others branch Ding Tai Fung fried rice is quite bland. But yesterday fried rice at Raffles City shopping mall basement branch was super tasty! Wow the prawns tasted refreshing sweet.
Steamed chilli crab dumpling is only available till 31 August this year! It is one dish I looks forwards to every year!
It is filled with soupy chilli crab and fresh pork.

Singapore Night Light Festival

The annual night light festival will be back at Bras Basah on 19, 20, 26 and 27 August. Be dazzled by the light arts performances and sculptures. Last year when my cousin and I attended this free event, we had to jostle our way to various light arts performances as road was congested with people. We were just surrounded by so many people with hardly breathing space. I'm not exaggerating, both locals and tourists were there to enjoy the free events. Singapore is a small island of 700km square yet there are 5 million locals and residents. I do hope there be more security in this public event.

Date: 19, 20, 26 and 27 Aug (both Fri and Sat)
TIme: 7.30pm to 2am.

Yummy Desserts at Honeymoon Dessert at Ion Orchard

One of the main reasons why I go to Ion Orchard shopping mall is to satisfy my craving for double-boiled milk with walnut and almond dessert, follow by a trip to the bookshop at Ngee Ann City. The silky smooth dessert with crunchy almond and walnut just makes me happy. Hmm, maybe next week I go to Ion Orchard to have my favourite dessert!

First Singaporean Selected in Sing!China

Finally a Singaporean is chosen in the prestigious Sing!China, formally known as Voice of China. Talented Chinese singers from around the world participate in this competitive singing competition in China. In the past Malaysian and Thai Chinese were selected. It made me wonder when there be a Singaporean in the show.  What is amazing is all four judges want Nathan Hartono to be part of their teams. In the end, Nathan chose Jay Chou, Mando King of Pop to be his mentor. Wise choice I must say since Jay Chou is gifted in music composing and his partner Fang Wen San is talented in Chinese lyrics.

Chai Tow Kway aka Fried Carrot Cake

One of my favourite breakfast dish is Chai Tow Kway also known as fried carrot cake. It is a popular Teochew cuisine. It comes in two version; black which is doused with black soya sauce and is sweeter compared to the white version. I prefer white chai tow kway. My favourite stall is the one at Tampines round market at Blk 139.

Cheese Tasting in Jasons Supermarket

I love cheese especially soft cheese with fruits inside. My favourite is camembert cheese. So whenever I'm at Ion Orchard shopping mall with my young cousin, we will go to Jasons supermarket for cheese tasting inside a special cheese room where there are many cheese to try. If you are a cheeselover like me, you will love this place!
There is a small room where you all try different types of cheese in Jasons Supermarket.
Just throw used toothpicks in the box provided.
Cheese are cut into bitesize for you to sample.

Ya Kun Kaya Toast

Ya Kun Kaya Toast is a popular coffee shop that sells Singapore traditional breakfast of kaya toast and rich aromatic coffee. I had the value set meal which include cheezy french toast, 2 soft-boiled eggs and a cup of coffee. I think the price is about $4.80.

For soft-boiled eggs, I like to add light soya sauce.
